USA Development Team Named

by Alex Schwartz

After two days of tryouts in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the USA Development Team has been named. The inaugural U16 National Team is a who's who of big-time prospects, and a number of high-major recruits were left out. Here's the final 12 man roster:

Justin Anderson '12, Montrose Christian (MD)
Bradley Beal '11, Chaminade Prep (MO)
Quinn Cook '11, DeMatha (MD)
Andre Drummond '11, Capital Prep (CT)
Sterling Gibbs '11, Seton Hall Prep (NJ)
Brandan Kearney '11, Southeastern (MI)
James McAdoo '11, Norfolk Christian (VA)
Johnny O'Bryant '11, Eastside (MS)
Tony Parker '11, Miller Grove (GA)
Chasson Randle '11, Rock Island (IL)
LJ Rose '12, Second Baptist School (TX)
Adonis Thomas '11, Melrose (TN)

The squad features ten players from the class of 2011 and two from the class of 2012. The only state with more than one representative is Maryland.

Perry Ellis '12 of Wichita Heights (KS), Angelo Chol '11 of Herbert Hoover (CA), and Tony Wroten '11 of Garfield (WA) all were at the tryouts, but will be unable to play in Argentina this summer. Michael Gilchrist '11 of St. Patrick's (NJ) and Marquis Teague '11 of Pike (IN) could not get out to the Centennial State for tryouts. Thus, those five players were taken out of consideration for the team. The other players who tried out for the squad were Kyle Anderson '12 of Paterson Catholic (NJ), Kevin Ware '11 of Rockdale County (GA), Arizona State-commit Kyle Caudill '11 of Brea Olinda (CA), and Norvel Pelle '11 of Dominguez (CA).

I spoke to four of these players (Drummond, Cook, McAdoo, and Gibbs) about two weeks ago regarding what it meant to them to have been selected to tryout, and all four of them made the team. Click HERE to see that article, which also has recruiting updates from McAdoo and Gibbs.
