Within the last 10 minutes I received word from a source close to the situation that Tyreak Johnson '09 of St. Raymond's (NY) has verbally committed to Howard. The sturdy point guard, who ran with the NY Gauchos for AAU ball, had been one of the top uncommitted seniors in the Big Apple. This is a big pickup for Howard, as the Bison are getting a quality player who plays with big-time high school and AAU programs. Johnson is the second player to commit to the MEAC school this week, as Gary Lawrence '09 of Chestnut Hill Academy (PA) chose Howard on Wednesday, in that Northstar Basketball was the first site to report. Johnson, Lawrence, and Charles DeCosta of Living Faith (NJ) are all committed to Howard, meaning that Head Coach Gil Jackson is bringing in a player from NJ, NY, and PA, all three of which churn out great talent each year. Again, in news being first reported by Northstar Basketball, Tyreak Johnson of St. Raymond's has pledged to Howard.
