News & Notes

- NIA Prep (NJ) finished the season ranked as the number 11 prep school team in the nation according to US Prep Basketball. This was the first year that the school had an official prep team, so this is a great accomplishment for the Eagles, who were coached by Vincent Robinson. NIA players included Western Kentucky-bound David Laury '09 and Morehead State-commit Joe Swift '09, amongst others. National Prep Championship Tournament winner Tilton School (NH) was ranked number one in the poll.
- I first saw on Scout that Taran Buie '10, a talented point guard from Bishop Maginn (NY), committed to Penn State. Buie, who plays with the Albany City Rocks on the AAU circuit on a talented squad that also features Tobias Harris '10 and Will Regan '10, picked the Nittany Lions the night the school won the NIT. Buie's half brother is Penn State's superstar sophomore Talor Battler, one of the top players in the Big 10.
- Chase Plummer '10 of St. Patrick's (NJ) picked up his first scholarship offer this week, and it came from Robert Morris. Plummer, who will run with Team NJABC this AAU season, is also receiving interest from schools such as Niagara, Princeton, UPenn, La Salle, Brown, St. Joseph's, and Miami.
- Check out this article from Memphis Roar, regarding possible coaching hires for the Tigers, with both UMass Head Coach Derek Kellogg and Kentucky Assistant Coach Josh Pastner being mentioned as good candidates. Pastner was at Memphis this past year, but went to UK with John Calipari and the rest of the former Memphis staff. Kellogg is also a former Memphis assistant coach.
