MAJOR NEWS!!! Kyrie Irving Names Top 10
by Alex Schwartz
Within the last 15 minutes, I received a text message from Kyrie Irving '10 of St. Patrick's (NJ) regarding his updated school list. The 6'2 point guard who
had a fantastic season for the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions winner, informed me that he now has a list of his top 10 schools. The lucky schools are Indiana, Notre Dame, Duke, Seton Hall, Texas A&M, Florida, Marquette, Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Pitt. Although this is "for now" his list of finalists, Irving said, " [others] could [get on the list] if I like the school." All of those schools have extended scholarship offers to Irving, one of the fastest rising prospects in the nation. For a while, Memphis had been a main school on Kyrie's list, though they now that John Calipari has left for Kentucky, Irving said the following regarding the Wildcats: "I'm waiting to see what Coach Cal does." As of now, the new UK staff has not offered Kyrie a scholarship, though when Calipari was at Memphis, he did offer the St. Pat's star. When it comes to Memphis and whether or not they are out of the picture, Irving told me, "[It] depends on who gets the job."
Some glaring omissions from Irving's list are Rutgers, Villanova, Kansas, UConn, and Louisville amongst others. These five were all thought to be in good shape with Irving, but with well over 30 schools recruiting him, it makes sense that there are some surprises. It will be interesting to see how Irving's recruitment plays out. I will be sure to keep you updated on just that.
