- The Argonauts of Rutgers Prep (NJ) defeated The Pennington School (NJ) Red Raiders 79-72 this evening in the New Jersey Prep B state title game. Led by 24 points from Harold Spears '10, the Red Raiders were up by 16 at one point in the first quarter, and led by 11 at the half and after three quarters, but Rutgers Prep caught fire in its own gym in the final eight minutes. The duo of Jordan Robinson '09 and David McDaniel '09—the last high school game for both—was too much for Pennington. With the victory, the New Jersey Prep B state champs end the year at an impressive 22-6 while Pennington falls to 20-6 with one game—the Mercer County Tournament finals—left.
- Check out ZagsBlog for a six-minute interview that Adam Zagoria conducted with Lance Stephenson '09 of Lincoln (NY), arguably the top player in the class of 2009.
- Last night was a huge night for Steve Rennard '10 of St. Joseph's Metuchen (NJ) to say the least. The 6'1 combo guard scored his 1,000th career point and led his team to a Middlesex County Tournament championship birth, setting up a rubber match with the Piscataway (NJ) Chiefs. Rennard began Wednesday with zero scholarship offers and ended it with two, as both Iona and Robert Morris made their moves.
- Michael Gilchrist '11 of St. Patrick's (NJ) may miss the rest of the season after chipping a bone in his foot on Friday at practice. The 6'7 sophomore combo forward may well be the top player in his class in America and this is a big blow to the Celtics' Tournament of Champions title hopes, though they are still probably the favorite.
