Prime Time Shootout Live Running Blog- Our Savior New American (NY) vs. Life Center Academy (NJ)

by Alex Schwartz

The final weekend of the 2009 Prime Time Shootout is underway, with the game between the Pioneers of Our Savior New American (NY) and the Warriors of Life Center Academy (NJ) facing off in the early game at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey. OSNA is led by Rayner Moquete '09, Chris Hampton '10, and Steele Davis '11. Rider-bound Dera Nd-Ezuma '09, Binghamton-bound Dyaln Talley '09, Oscar Griffin '09, St. Joseph's-commit Daryus Quarles '10, and Chris Thompson '10 lead the way for LCA, which is without star guard, Syracuse-bound Dion Waiters '10. We are nearly four minutes into the game, and I'll get you caught up.

10:35am- Life Center Academy is up 9-2 through 3:45 of play.

10:44am- At the end of the first quarter, LCA is ahead 19-8.

10:48am- Chris Thompson '10, Daryus Quarles '10, and Dylan Talley '09 have helped the Warriors surge out to a 26-10 lead through 10 minutes of action.

10:49am- A nice slam by Talley on the fast break made it 28-10 and led to a timeout by OSNA, which is turning the ball over a lot and can't get anything going.

10:51am- Big man Steele Davis '11 scored for the Pioneers to make it 28-12. He is the only player on the New York squad who is doing anything offensively, and is working hard.

10:53am- Hampton '10 scored for OSNA, and Quarles quickly answered with a trifecta. Rayner Moquete '09 responded with a deuce to make it 33-16 with under four minutes left in the half.

10:54am- This is fast becoming the Quarles & Talley show, as the duo is dominating for LCA, though Steele Davis won't let the lead get over 20, and is trying to keep his team in it; Quarles and Davis exchanged baskets to make it 35-18.

10:56am- So much for keeping it under 20; LCA leads 39-18 with less than 2:15 to go in the half.

10:58am- Quarles is lighting it up. The recent St. Joe's pledge knocked down a trey to make it 42-21 LCA.

11:05am- At halftime, Life Center Academy is ahead of Our Savior New American by 24 points, 45-21.

11:16am - Dera Nd-Ezuma '09 grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up and in to open up the scoring in the second half. An OSNA bucket was answered by another basket by Nd-Ezuma on a second chance opportunity. LCA leads 49-23.

11:18am- Talley just threw down his second fast break dunk of the affair, making it 53-25, but an OSNA bucket cut it back to 26.

11:24am- Moquete just had a nice take to the bucket and put it in to make it 57-35 with a little over one minute to go in the third quarter.

11:31am- With just under seven minutes left in the game, Life Center is up 59-37.

11:32am- Davis followed up a miss by Moquete on a tough shot to cut the LCA lead down to 20.

11:39am- Talley has caught fire again, and just put LCA up by 25, but three straight OSNA buckets—including a jam by Davis—have sliced the lead under 20. Life Center is up 66-47 with less than three minutes to play.

11:43am- An old-fashioned three-point play from Quarles has put LCA up 71-48 with about a minute left.

11:45am- The game is over, and Life Center Academy has a 77-50 win, with an alley-oop dunk by Thompson as time expired putting an exclamation point on the victory.

11:47am- Steele Davis' 22 points garnered him MVP honors for Our Savior New American. Dylan Talley scored 18 points en route to MVP honors for Life Center Academy.

12:06pm- After the game I caught up with Chris Thompson, Dylan Talley, and Daryus Quarles.

5:42pm- I happened to see Rayner Moquete later in the day and spoke to him as well.
