Prime Time Shootout Live Running Blog- North Catholic (PA) vs. Jamesville-DeWitt (NY)

The final game to be played at Villanova in underway. The Falcons of North Catholic (PA), the defending Philadelphia Catholic league champions, are facing the Jamesville-DeWitt (NY) Red Rams, a defending New York state champ. The Red Rams are undefeated and have already beaten Lincoln (NY). North Catholic features 6'9 Rakeem Christmas '11, who is helped out by players such as Jack O'Neill '10 and Mike Terry '10. For Jamesville-DeWitt, Syracuse-bound 6'4 guard Brandon Triche '09 leads the way, while Alshwan Hymes '09 and 6'8 Dajuan Coleman '12 are solid as well. The battle down low between Christmas and Coleman will be one to watch. There's only about a minute left in the first quarter, so I'll fill you in on what's been going on.
8:56pm- With 1:02 to play in the first quarter, North Catholic is ahead 14-10.
8:59pm- Brandon Triche '09 hit a couple of free throws and Jaleel Mack '10 scored for North Catholic, so the Falcons will take a 16-12 lead into the second quarter.
9:00pm- Alshwan Hymes '09 opened up the scoring in the second period with a pair of deuces, tying the game at 16 about 50 seconds in.
9:02pm- A bucket from Rakeem Christmas '11 put the Philly squad back on top.
9:03pm- Demetrius Mitchell '11 scored in the post for J-D, the team's third or fourth opportunity on the possession.
9:05pm- Zach Chionuma '10 nailed a trey to give J-D a three-point lead, 21-18.
9:06pm- Christmas scored for North Catholic, and Lamar Kearse '12 responded for the Red Rams, making it 23-20.
9:07pm- A triple from Kearse answered a bucket by Jack O'Neill '10. Jamesville-DeWitt leads 26-22.
9:08pm- Kearse is on fire. The junior took a pass from Triche and put it in the hoop to make it 28-22. North Catholic took a timeout with 1:51 left in the first half.
9:09pm- A layup from Chionuma has given J-D an eight-point cushion. The Red Rams are on a 7-0 run.
9:11pm- The buzzer just sounded to end the first half, and after 16 minutes of play, the Red Rams hold a 30-24 lead.
9:22pm- Hymes threw a long pass to Triche who scored in the post to open the scoring in the second half.
9:23pm- Mike Terry '10 nailed a triple for North Catholic and then Dajuan Coleman '12 answered for J-D. The Red Rams are up 34-27.
9:25pm- Jamesville-DeWitt is leading 39-20 with 5:32 to go in the third quarter.
9:26pm- Triche grabbed an offensive rebound and put the ball up and in. Hymes then connected on a long two. The Falcons then took a timeout with the clock showing 4:21, trailing 43-32.
9:29pm- Hymes scored over the outstretched arm of 6'9 Rakeem Christmas. The Empire State squad is up 45-32.
9:30pm- After an exchange of baskets, Kearse hit a triple from the corner to put the Red Rams up 50-34.
9:31pm- Kearse hit a trey in front of the J-D bench, giving the team a a 19-point cushion. The Falcons called timeout with 1:47 to go in the third quarter, trailing 53-34. The Red Rams are outscoring the Falcons 23-10 in the period.
9:33pm- A trey from Jack O'Neill and a deuce by Bob Makor '10 have made it a 14-point game.
9:35pm- It's now 53-43 with under 20 seconds to go in the quarter. Since the Falcons' timeout, they are on a 9-0 run.
9:36pm- The quarter ended with a bucket from Coleman, giving J-D a 55-43 advantage entering the final quarter of regulation in today's action.
9:38pm- Baskets by Coleman and Mitchell have put Jamesville-DeWitt up by 16.
9:39pm- O'Neill missed an open layup, got his own board, and missed again. J-D missed at the other end, and then Makor scored for North Catholic. The Red Rams lead 59-45.
9:40pm- Woody Redding '10 hit a three for the Falcons. Coleman made the first of two from the line at the other end, so it's now 60-48.
9:43pm- With 4:04 to go in the affair, North Catholic has taken a timeout, trailing 60-48. J-D has the ball.
9:45pm- There's been a bit of a scoring drought, and with less than three minutes to go, it's still 60-48.
9:46pm- After baskets by Mack and O'Neill to cut the J-D lead down to eight, 60-52, the Red Rams have called timeout with 2:17 remaining in the fourth quarter.
9:47pm- Triche went coast-to-coast and was fouled by Christmas—who has been quiet in the second half—going up for a layup. He hit the first of two, making it a nine-point game.
9:49pm- North Catholic couldn't take advantage of a Triche turnover. In fact, Triche came up with a lose ball and took it coast-to-coast for an old-fashioned three-point play. The score is now 64-52.
9:51pm- Brandon Triche made a pair at the line with 49.4 to go, giving the Red Rams a 14-point lead. O'Neill then drained a trey to make it 66-55 and the Falcons took a timeout with 41.3 left.
9:54pm- The game is over, and Jamesville-DeWitt has a 68-55 win.
