Prime Time Shootout Live Running Blog- Penn Wood (PA) vs. Neumann-Goretti (PA)

The second game of the night has just begun, and it's a Philly showdown. The Patriots of Penn Wood (PA) are squaring off with the Saints of Neumann-Goretti (PA). Penn Wood is led by point guard Tyree Johnson '10, big man Shawn Oakman '11, and wing Duane Johnson '09. For Neumann, Wake Forest-commit Tony Chenault '10 runs the show with some help from Niagara-signee Andre "Scooter" Gillette. We are just over a minute into the action.

7:40pm- Pennwood leads 2-1 through 1:20 of play.

7:49pm- With 1:20 to go in the first quarter, Neumann-Goretti leads 16-10.

7:50pm- Shawn Oakman '11 just had a very nice block for Penn Wood, as N-G was on the fast break.

7:51pm- After eight minutes of play, the Saints are up 16-10.

7:54pm- Tyree Johnson '10 got a steal near mid-court, but couldn't convert on the fast break.

7:56pm- We've played 2:15 of the second quarter, and no one has scored.

7:57pm- Daniel Stewart '12 banked in a 16-foot jumper three minutes into the quarter for the first points of the period. Neumann leads 18-10.

7:58pm- Duane Johnson '09 grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up and in for Pennwood, the team's first points of the quarter. It's now an 18-12 game.

8:01pm- An offensive rebound and bucket from Thomas White '09 have cut the Saints' lead down to four, 18-14.

8:02pm- Aaron Brown '11 used a nice move to get a bucket for Penn Wood, and then scored again in transition, tying the game at 18 with just over two minutes to go in the half.

8:03pm- A basket from Tony Chenault '10 has ended an 8-0 Penn Wood run and has given N-G a 20-18 edge.

8:04pm- Tyreek Duran '10 took the ball to about the free throw line, dribbled the ball behind his back, and dished it to Lamin Fulton '11, and the sophomore knocked down a trey.

8:05pm- The Patriots answered with a deuce, so it's 23-20 with just over 60 seconds to go in the half.

8:07pm- After 16 minutes of play, Neumann-Goretti leads 25-20.

8:19pm- A three from Tyree Johnson has opened the scoring in the second half, and cut Neumann's lead down to two, 25-23.

8:20pm- T. Johnson scored again, this time on a tough runner in the lane, tying the score at 25.

8:22pm- Andre "Scooter" Gillette '09 scored for N-G to put the Saints back on top, but then D. Johnson nailed a couple of free throws to even the score at 27 with about six minutes to play in the third period of action.

8:23pm- Mustafa Jones '10 knocked down a trey for N-G and Oakman scored on a tip-in for the Patriots, so it's 30-29 in favor of Neumann.

8:24pm- A triple from Duran has pushed the Saints' lead up to four, 33-29. Thomas White then hit the second of two at the line for Penn Wood, so it's 33-30.

8:25pm- An easy layup from Chenault on the fast break has put Neumann-Goretti up by five, 35-30.

8:26pm- Tyreek Duran used a nifty move to get to the hole and score. T. Johnson then answered at the other end for Penn Wood.

8:27pm- A three-ball from Duran has given the Saints a 40-32 lead.

8:29pm- A deuce from Tony Chenault has stretched the N-G lead to double-digits, 42-32, with about three minutes to go in the quarter.

8:30pm- A pair of free throws from the Patriots has ended a 12-3 Neumann run, and made it a 42-34 game.

8:31pm- Dequan Pelzer '10 fouled Jones on a three, and the junior made the second and third at the line. The Saints lead 44-34 with 2:12 to go in the third period of action.

8:32pm- Neumann-Goretti is now up by a dozen after a deuce from Duran.

8:34pm- With 1:27 to go in the third quarter, Penn Wood has taken a timeout, trailing by 12.

8:36pm- Tyreek Duran is on fire this quarter. The junior just knocked down a trey to push the Saints' cushion up to 15 points, 49-34, with the clock showing about 40 seconds.

8:39pm- With eight minutes of basketball still to be played, Neumann-Goretti leads 49-34.

8:44pm- The score is 51-38 in favor of N-G with 5:59 to go.

8:47pm- Gillette missed a pair at the line, but Penn Wood couldn't convert at the other end. Lamin Fulton then nailed a triple to put Neumann up by 16.

8:48pm- "Scooter" Gillette scored for N-G to make it a 56-38 game.

8:49pm- Duane Johnson and Shawn Oakman both have four fouls for Penn Wood, which trails by 20, 58-38, after a pair of free throws from Chenault.

8:50pm- Tyree Johnson was credited with an assist on a jam from Duane Johnson.

8:51pm- Buckets from Oakman and D. Johnson have cut the N-G lead down to 14, 58-44, with under 3:30 to play.

8:52pm- After the Saints added a point off a free throw, Tyree Johnson knocked down a three. With 3:02 to go, the Patriots are down 59-47 and are on a 9-1 run.

8:53pm- Fulton hit a three to make it a 15-point game, and then both teams turned the ball over leading to a Duane Johnson bucket.

8:54pm- A Saints turnover led to a trey from Chris White '09. The Patriots then got the ball back and scored yet again.

8:55pm- With N-G leading 62-54 and the clock showing 1:45, Fulton went to the stripe for the Saints and made the first of two shots.

8:56pm- T. Johnson missed a three, but D. Johnson grabbed the loose ball rebound and was fouled by Duran with 1:35 left. The big man made a pair at the line, so it's 63-56.

8:57pm- As Gillette caught a pass while in the air and put it in, Oakman fouled him, his fifth personal, sending him to the bench. Gillette missed the free throw, and the Patriots knocked down a three at the other end, cutting the N-G down to six, 65-59.

8:59pm- Chenault made the first of two at the line, but came up with the loose ball rebound, yet he then lost control of the ball and it went out of bounds. At the other end, D. Johnson hit the second of two at the line, making it a 66-60 game with just under a minute left.

9:00pm- Chenault went back to the line with 57.5 to go and missed both shots. Penn Wood then had three shots at the other end, but none fell. If Penn Wood had scored it would have been a four-point game.

9:01pm- Duran hit a pair from the line with 35.2 to go. Neumann then took a timeout, leading 68-60.

9:03pm- T. Johnson went coast-to-coast, but missed a layup. D. Johnson was fouled going up for the rebound, and made both shots.

9:04pm- Jones knocked down a couple from the line, and Penn Wood missed a three at the other end. Duan Johnson then fouled Chenault with 12.8 left and he hit the first of two.

9:05pm- After a missed three by the Patriots, Chenault missed a jam on the break at the buzzer, but it didn't matter, as the Saints have a 71-62 win.

9:36pm- Duane Johnson was the MVP for Penn Wood, while Tony Chenault, who had 14 points, was the MVP for Neumann-Goretti. After the game I spoke with Tyree Johnson, Duane Johnson, and Lamin Fulton.
