Prime Time Shootout Live Running Blog- Chester (PA) vs. Roman Catholic (PA)

The final game of the evening is well underway. The game pits the Chester (PA) Clippers and Roman Catholic (PA) Cahillites. Chester is led by Temple-bound forward Rahlir Jefferson '09, and also has the younger brother of Orlando Magic star Jameer Nelson, Maurice Nelson '11. Roman Catholic will be without Villanova-signee Maalik Wayns '09 due to an injury suffered on Monday, but still has a talented lineup that includes Rakeem Brookins '10 and Andre Horne '12. I'll get you caught up on the action.

9:42pm- It's 12-2 in favor of Chester through 5:20 of play. Koron Reed '09 has the only points for Roman Catholic.

9:44pm- A trey from Dymere Crews '10 gave Chester a 15-2 lead, but Rakeem Brookins '10 answered wit ha triple of his own, so it's 15-5.

9:45pm- It's 15-7 after a dunk from Reed off a pass from Brookins. There is an entire cheering section of Roman Catholic students here, and they are pretty loud, despite the size of the arena.

9:46pm- Koron Reed scored for Roman just before the buzzer, so it's 15-9 after eight minutes of play. Reed has six of Roman's nine points.

9:48pm- Andre Horne '12 missed a three, but followed his shot, grabbed the board and put it up an in, making it a 9-0 run for Roman Catholic, which now trails by just four.

9:50pm- Crews scored for Chester to end the Roman Catholic run. It's 17-11 with just under 6:30 to go in the half.

9:51pm- A bucket off an up-and-under by Reed followed by a deuce from Brookins has cut the Chester lead all the way down to two, 17-15, with 5:44 to go in the first half. Roman Catholic is on a 13-2 run.

9:54pm- Maurice Nelson '11 hit a three for Chester at one end, and at the other, Roman Catholic had four chances but couldn't score, so it's 20-15 with five minutes to go in the first 16 minutes of action.

9:57pm- Halfway through the second quarter the score is 22-17 in favor of the Clippers.

10:00pm- A deuce by Rahlir Jefferson '09 to put Chester up 26-17 has led to a Roman Catholic timeout with 2:35 to go in the half.

10:03pm- Reed made the first of a pair, and the ball went off Chester after the miss, so Roman has the ball back, trailing 26-18.

10:05pm- A three from Roman Catholic answered a couple of free throws by Jefferson. It's 28-21 with under 90 seconds to go in the half.

10:06pm- Maurice Nelson used a nice move to get a deuce for Chester. The Clippers are up 30-21.

10:07pm- Koron Reed, who has missed two chip-ins already, one of which came just now, hit the first of two at the line. Nelson then connected on another three for Chester.

10:08pm- Kevin Regan '10 missed a three at the buzzer, so Chester will take a 33-22 lead into the intermission.

10:29pm- With 5:12 to go in the third quarter, Chester leads 39-24.

10:30pm- Brookins scored for Roman, and then Andre Horne picked up his fourth foul at the other end. Jefferson made one of two at the stripe, putting Chester up 40-26.

10:36pm- Chester has called timeout with 1:59 to go in the third quarter, leading 40-34.

10:38pm- Brookins stole a pass, but Roman couldn't convert. Chester was then called for an offensive foul after getting the ball back.

10:39pm- A steal near halfcourt led to a pull-up J for a bucket from Brookins. It's a four-point game, with Chester up 40-36.

10:41pm- Regan missed a trey at the buzzer, so it's going to be 40-36 Chester entering the fourth period of play.

10:43pm- Regan missed a floater to open the final quarter, but Chester turned over after getting the board. Roman took advantage, as Reed scored on an alley-oop of a pass from Brookins. It's a two-point game with about 7:30 to go.

10:46pm- Maurice Nelson scored on the break for Chester, and the Clippers now lead by five.

10:48pm- Jefferson stole an inbounds pass and jammed it. Chester then got the ball back and the Clippers found Nelson, who connected on a trey. Roman was then called for a traveling violation. It's 48-38 with just over five minutes to go.

10:50pm- Brookins stepped out of bounds trying to beat the press, and Chester turned that into a point, as Nelson made the first of a couple from the stripe. It's an 11-point game with under five minutes remaining.

10:52pm- Both teams missed two shots at the stripe. Reed then put home a deuce for Roman and also blocked a shot on D. The Clippers' lead is nine, 49-40, with just over four minutes to go.

10:55pm- Brookins hit the second of two at the line with 3:58 to go, making it an eight-point game. At the other end, Reed blocked another Chester shot.

10:57pm- Horne missed the front end of a one-and-one, so Chester has the ball back with about three minutes left in regulation.

10:58pm- Nelson drove to the cup and made a tough shot to give Chester a 12-point cushion, 53-41.

10:59pm- Nelson hit the second of two at the stripe with 1:52 left. At the other end, Reed hit one free throw.

11:00pm- A layup from Nelson has made it a 14-point game, 56-42, with about 95 seconds left.

11:01pm- Two free throws from Brookins have cut the Chester lead to 12.

11:03pm- With one minute left it's 60-45 Chester.

11:05pm- The game is over, and the Chester Clippers have a 60-45 victory.

11:07pm- Rakeem Brookins' 22 points garnered him MVP honors for Roman Catholic, while Rahlir Jefferson won the award for Chester.

11:27pm- I spoke with Rakeem Brookins, Koron Reed, and Maurice Nelson after the game, I also caught up with Anthony Mayo earlier in the evening.
