Prime Time Shootout Live Running Blog- Paterson Catholic (NJ) vs. Lincoln (NY)

The third game of the night, a New Jersey/New York showdown between Paterson Catholic (NJ) and Lincoln (NY) is already underway. Paterson Catholic has a plethora of talent, including Fordham-bound Lance Brown '09, Fuquan Edwin '10, TJ Clemmings '10, Jayon James '10, Derrick Randall '11, Myles Mack '11, and Kyle Anderson '12. The Cougars are one of the deepest teams in the nation. As for Lincoln, it's all about Lance Stephenson '09, argubaly the best player in America. The swingman teams with Davon Walls '09, Anthony Allen '09, Maryland-bound James Padgett '09, Darwin "Buddha" Ellis '09, and Shaq Stokes '11 on a senior-laden Railsplitters squad with its on a fourth staright New York City crown.

8:22pm- Lincoln is up 10-9 with 2:17 to go in the first quarter.

8:25pm- From what I've seen, this game is very fast paced, and also quite sloppy.

8:26pm- Jayon James '10 missed two free throws and then Lance Stephenson '09, after losing control of the ball at first, was just short on a pull-up from halfcourt at the buzzer. It's 10-9 at the end of the first quarter.

8:28pm- A three from Myles Mack '11 has put PC up 12-10. A triple from Jermaine Peart '10 has now put the Cougars ahead 15-10.

8:29pm- Fuquan Edwin '10 scored for PC, giving the Garden State squad a seven-point edge, 17-10.

8:30pm- Edwin scored on a long jumper, Stephenson then missed a J at the other end. Edwin then put in another deuce, leading to a timeout from Lincoln. Paterson Catholic is outscoring Lincoln 12-0 in the second quarter, and we are just 2:19 into it. Edwin has the game's last six points.

8:32pm- James Padgett '09 scored for Lincoln to end the PC run, and was fouled, but his missed his shot from stripe. It's 21-12.

8:33pm- TJ Clemmings '10 missed a pair of free throws, but Lincoln couldn't convert at the other end. Jayon James and Myles Mack then scored back-to-back buckets to make it 25-12.

8:36pm- Edwin scored again for PC, which leads 27-12, and has outscored Lincoln 18-2 this quarter. James Padgett just hit a layup for Lincoln to make it 27-14.

8:37pm- A few observations: TJ Clemmings seems to have gotten taller, which is, of course, good for the low post player. Kyle Anderson, who is getting a lot of playing time, has improved his speed, as that has been a knock on him for a while. Davon Walls of Lincoln is huge; he has a big frame and good size.

8:38pm- It's 31-16 with about 50 seconds to go in the half. The largest PC lead thus far has been 17, when it was up 31-14.

8:40pm- Fuquan Edwin just threw down a monster dunk on the fast break off a pass from Mack. Stephenson was then called for an offensive foul at the other end.

8:41pm- Darwin "Buddha" Ellis '09 hit a buzzer-beating three for Lincoln to make it a 33-19 game at the half. The Cougars outscored the Railsplitters 24-9 that quarter.

8:54pm- With the clock showing 6:51, Paterson Catholic has a 35-23 lead over Lincoln.

8:55pm- A layup and a three from Stephenson have cut the PC lead down to single digits, 35-28. The Cougars have taken a timeout with 5:57 to go in the third period of action.

8:56pm- A nifty move to get to the hole by James Padgett led to an easy bucket, cutting the lead to five. Fuquan Edwin scored on a tip-in at the other end. Stephenson then nailed a trey. The PC lead has been sliced all the way down to just four points, 37-33.

8:58pm- Lance Stephenson has begun to take over this game. He just took a pass, drove to the rack, scored, and drew hard foul from TJ Clemmings, though he did miss his free throw. Lincoln is down by just two, after being behind by as much as 17 in the second quarter. The Railsplitters have outscored PC 16-4 so far in the third quarter.

9:00pm- Jayon James missed a pair of free throws, and Stephenson grabbed the rebound after the second one. At the other end, with a chance to tie it up, James Padgett was called for traveling.

9:01pm- Edwin scored for PC to make it a 39-35 game.

9:02pm- Myles Mack had a great block, but then PC was called for traveling, leading to a Lincoln bucket.

9:03pm- Darwin "Buddha" Ellis knocked down a triple with about 1:20 left in the third quarter, giving Lincoln its first lead, 40-39, since early in the second quarter when it was up 10-9.

9:04pm- We've got a great game on our hands. Kyle Anderson just nailed a triple from the corner to put the Cougars back on top by a score of 42-40.

9:05pm- Stephenson made the first of two free throws, but James Padgett got the offensive rebound after the second one.

9:06pm- Kyle Anderson stole a pass with about nine seconds to go in the half and was fouled with a bout six to play. Jayon James couldn't convert on a 13-foot jumper as time expired in the third quarter.

9:07pm- Lincoln is down 42-41 after three quarters of play, after trailing by 14 at the half, and falling behind by as much as 17 in the second quarter. The Railsplitters outscored PC 22-9 in the third period of action.

9:09pm- After Jayon James grabbed an offensive rebound to keep a PC possession alive, he was later rewarded by receiving a dish from Kyle Anderson, putting it in the hole, getting fouled, and knocking down his free throw. The Cougars are up 45-41.

9:11pm- A tip-in from James Padgett has cut the PC lead to two.

9:12pm- Fuquan Edwin made the second of two free throws, stretching the Cougars' lead to three, 46-43, with under six minutes left. Lance Stephenson then hit a tough shot at the other end to cut the lead back down to one.

9:13pm- After Lance Stephenson made the first of a pair of shots from the line, PC took a timeout with 4:35 to play in regulation, and the game tied up at 46.

9:17pm- With 3:10 to go, the score is still even at 46.

9:20pm- Lincoln has taken a 50-46 lead on a pair of layups with just under two minutes to go. The second one came off a long "football" pass from Stephenson to Ellis.

9:23pm- With 1:05 to go, Edwin is at the stripe for the Cougars. Lincoln has outscored PC 31-13 in the second half.

9:24pm- Edwin made both shots to cut the lead to two, 50-48. Lincoln was then called for traveling, giving the ball back to Damon Wright's squad, who could not convert.

9:25pm- Lincoln couldn't score, and then James hit a short jumper to tie the game. Lincoln then took a timeout with 14.7 seconds left in regulation, and the score 50-50.

9:29pm- Paterson Catholic won the tip, but could not take advantage of having the ball first, coming up scoreless.

9:27pm- Stephenson missed an off-balance three at the buzzer, so we are headed to overtime!

9:29pm- "Buddha" Ellis nailed a triple to put Lincoln up 53-50. Edwin was then called for an offensive foul at the other end, giving the ball back to Lincoln.

9:32pm- Shaq Stokes turned the ball over on a backcourt violation, so PC has the rock with 2:40 to go in OT.

9:33pm- TJ Clemmings missed a tough shot down low for the Cougars, and then Jayon James was called for a foul on Ellis, PC's 10th, meaning that Lincoln is shooting two from here on out. Ellis missed both shots, so it remains 53-50.

9:34pm- Kyle Anderson missed a floater, giving Lincoln the ball back. PC got a steal, and James scored on a tip-in off a miss by Anderson.

9:35pm- Lance Stephenson was sitting on the flor near midcourt for a few minutes, but has now, fortunately, gotten up as play resumes. "Born Ready" is on the bench right now.

9:36pm- Stephenson is re-entering the game after Lincoln turned it over on a traveling call. PC then gave it back to Lincoln on the other end.

9:37pm- James Padgett is at the stripe with 1:10 to go, with the Railsplitters up 53-52. The future Maryland Terrapin made the first of two.

9:38pm- Lance Stephenson fouled TJ Clemmings, sending him to the line for  one-and-one, where he missed the front end. The foul was Stephenson's fourth.

9:39pm- The Cougars have taken a timeout with 1:01 to play, trailing 54-52.

9:40pm- Jayon James missed a floater, but got his own board, put it up and in, drew a foul on Stokes, and made his free throw, giving PC a 55-54 lead with less than 50 seconds to play.

9:41pm- With nothing really developing on offense, Lincoln has taken a timeout with 20.7 seconds to go. The Railsplitters are behind 55-54.

9:43pm- Padget inbounded the ball to Ellis, who got it to Stephenson.

9:44pm- Ellis missed a tough runner, and Edwin got the rebound, and was fouled by Padgett with 0.4 seconds to go. He made both free throws to put PC up 567-54. Stephenson missed a long buzzer beater, and PC has a 57-54 win.

9:51pm- Lance Stephenson was chosen as MVP from Lincoln, scoring 21 points. For Paterson Catholic, Fuquan Edwin got the honor, after dropping 24 points. I spoke to Darwin "Buddha" Ellis after the game.
