Battle of the Nation's Best Bigs: Favors & S. Atlanta vs. Cousins & LeFlore
by Alex Schwartz
Tonight at 9:00pm EST on ESPN2, Derrick Favors '09, who committed to Georgia Tech last night, and South Atlanta (GA) (#9 ESPN Rise, #19 PrepNation, #15 USA Today, #9 Rivals High) will battle DeMarcus Cousins '09 and LeFlore (AL) (#7 ESPN Rise, #15 PrepNation, #19 USA Today, #8 Rivals High). Favors and Cousins are the nation's consensus top two big men. Favors is a bruising low post player, standing 6'9, while Cousins has a fantastic inside-outside game and is about 6'10. Cousins had been committed to UAB, but de-committed when the school would not give him a clause in his NLI stating that he would be let out of his NLI should Head Coach Mike Davis leave. South Atlanta also has Auburn-bound Andre Malone '09 and Nick Jacobs '11, while LeFlore has South Alabama-commit Kentari Nettles '10 paired with Cousins. This should be a great game, as the two squads are both led by gifted big men and are ranked within four spots of one another in each of the aforementioned polls, all of which have both teams in the top 20. South Atlanta is 13-1, with its lone loss coming to Lawrence North (IN), which features Lousiville-signee Stephan Van Treese '09, as well as a pair of sophomores also bound for Lousiville. LeFlore stands at 16-2, and both of its losses have come to PrepNation top 15 teams.
I think this should be a great game, and I'm going to go with South Atlanta by six, 71-65.
Note- Rivals and PrepNation used as sources for information.
