More Class of 2009 School Lists

by Alex Schwartz

I recently posted six class of 2009 school lists that I collected the other day. Now I will be posting four more lists from some uncommitted seniors. In addition, I got lists from Akeem Richmond '09 and Derrick Favors '09, and will post those in the near future, as well as a list that I got from Michael Gilchrist '11 at the St. Patrick's/Trenton Catholic game.

Matt Grossbard ’09, Pearl River (NY): Roger Williams (DIII), Ithaca (DIII), Hamilton (DIII), Lebanon Valley (DIII), Randolph-Macon (DIII), and Ursinus (DIII)
                                        Offers: n/a
Favorites: None; “I’m still really open to anything.”
Notes- Grossbard said that these are the schools he is “still considering.” He added that Randolph-Macon is the only one not to come to one of his games, as they have just gotten into the picture. Matt went on to say that he will “probably commit after the season . . . [as he] still has to take all [his] visits,” though he did inform me that he is considering “a prep school or two . . . [to] see if that’s the best root for” him. Grossbard specifically mentioned “New Hampton,” as it is a school that St. Anthony’s (NJ) Head Coach Bob Hurley recommended to him. “[I am] probably leaning towards the college [option, but I] . . . haven’t ruled out [prep school,” said Grossbard.

Dean Kowalski ’09, St. Patrick’s (NJ): Columbia, Harvard, Tufts (DIII)
                                   Offers: n/a
                                   Favorites: n/a
Notes- Kowalski, who had previously told me had been hoping to end up at an Ivy League school told me the following: “There’s nothing new going on. I’m down for Columbia or Harvard, either one hopefully. [I am] waiting on [hearing about] those applications and [getting] a little basketball influence. [I am] keeping my fingers crossed.” He went on to add, “As of now, [I am] just keeping in semi-contact with [Columbia and Harvard] and DIII [schools] like Tufts via e-mail, while other DIII [schools that] I’m not interested in send [me] mail, but I’d rather get into a Patriot [League] or Ivy [League] with my grades and then walk-on and play, then go to one of those types of [DIII] schools as a recruit and play.”

Michael Spence ’09, APEX Academies (NJ):
UMES, New Hampshire, Farleigh Dickinson, and Hartford
Offers: UMES; “That is the only offer I have because I was going to verbally [commit there] at one point, so my coach saw no need to entertain, but I decided to open up my recruitment, so within the next two weeks I should receive offers from the [other] schools I listed and more.”
Favorites: “UMES [is number one] and New Hampshire as my second [choice as of now].”
Notes- Spence said that the reason he had planned on committing to UMES previously was that it “was the only school willing to help with [his] grades, but now [he] is cleared.” Michael let me know that he is “open to talk to schools” and said via text message that his “game is improving every day.”

Henry Smith ’09, Monsignor Bonner (PA): King’s College (DIII), East Stroudsburg (DII), Neumann (DIII), and Bloomsburg (DII)
Offers: “Not that I know of.”
                                  Favorites: “Not really.”
