Kevin Boyle- One of the Best HS Coaches in the US

by Matthew Pauls and Alex Schwartz

Kevin Boyle was named High School Coach of the Year in 2007 by USA Today. St. Patrick' s(NJ), his high school team, has won six state titles in the last ten seasons, including four New Jersey Tournament of Champions titles. St. Pat's has been ranked in the top 25 in the nation for 17 straight seasons, and he has produced multiple high major DI stars, including Corey Fisher (Villanova), Shaheen Holloway (Seton Hall), Jeff Robinson (Memphis), Quintrell Thomas (Kansas), Grant Billmeier (Seton Hall), Mike Nardi (Villanova), and Derrick Caracter (formerly of Louisville), among many others. In addition, Boyle has seen two NBA players come from the school, which is in Elizabeth, New Jersey, under his watch: Samuel Dalembert (76ers) and Al Harrington(Knicks). Over the past 15+ years, St. Patrick's has been a national powerhouse, defeating some of America's top teams (last year, the Celtics knocked off Oak Hill Academy of Virginia at the Prime Time Shootout), and is a part of New Jersey's holy trinity along with St. Anthony's and St. Benedict's. Much of that is due to Boyle, who has established the Celtics as a team to be reckoned with year in and year out. St. Patrick's started this year ranked number four in the country by USA Today as well as number three in the nation and number one in the Garden State by ESPN RisePrep Nation started the Celtics out number six overall, making the squad a consensus top 10 team. The team is led by North Carolina-signee Dexter Strickland '09, Michael Gilchrist '11, George Mason-bound Paris Bennett '09 and Kyrie Irving '10, and kicks off the 08-09 season this weekend in Fort Myers, Florida in the City of Palms tournament, which features many of America's best teams, including Word of God (NC) and Lincoln (NY). The Celtics enter the tournament ranked number two in the nation in ESPN Rise's Fab 50, number four on Prep Nation, and remain number four in USA Today's Super 25, so the squad has become a consensus top five team.
Based on his body of work during his tenure at St. Patrick's, his strength with Xs and Os, and his relentless pursuit for perfection on the court, Kevin Boyle has to be considered one of the best high school coaches in the country . . . and maybe one of the best of all time, and he's not done yet.
