Xavier Henry to Memphis; More Signing Week Updates
by Alex Schwartz
I first saw on ZagsBlog this morning that Xavier Henry '09 of Putnam City (OK) had made his college decision and picked Memphis over Kansas, just as Northstar Basketball projected he would in both late August and early October. The ultra talented shooting guard is one of the nation's premiere players, and would have had an immediate impact at whatever school his selected. The Tigers are getting a good one in Henry, who had an interesting decision to make, as both of his parents played at Kansas, but his brother, CJ Henry (a former MLB first round draft pick of the New York Yankees), is currently playing basketball at Memphis. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Xavier has signed his Letter of Intent, and is officially a future Memphis Tiger.
Here are a few more signing week info as well as some updates that I picked up from some sources:
There have been a few commitments from some major players during the early signing period that I have yet to mention, including Michael Snaer picking Florida State, just as Northstar Basketball predicted in early October. Ruslan Pateev decided on Arizona State, while Demetrius Walker, a middle school superstar, signed with Arizona State too, after originally committing to USC. I've seen these decisions on ESPNU, Scout, Rivals, and Snaer's was on ZagsBlog, but I chose to wait to write them to focus specifically on player signings by school. Those are the main three signing week commitments, though Durand Scott will announce tomorrow—the last day of the early signing period—according to ZagsBlog, while I first saw on Scout at various points that Chris Colvin and Mike Moser will commit tomorrow too.
Binghamton
I received word from a source with knowledge of the situation today that the Bearcats have officially signed 6'4 Dylan Talley of Life Center (NJ), 6'7 Greer Wright of City College of San Francisco (CA), and 6'6 Taylor Johnston, who is from Canada.
Memphis (again)
A source with knowledge of the situation has informed me that the Tigers have signed Darnell Dodson, Will Coleman, and also Xavier Henry. I reported in my original signing day update that Nolan Dennis' NLI had been signed, so now all four Memphis-bound players have made it official.
Quinnipiac
Jamee Jackson of St. Anthony's (NJ) and Dave Johnson of St. Mark's (MA) are both future Bobcats, as they have officially signed the dotted line according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
