Basketball Shooting Academy a Success
Team NJ-ABC Instructional Basketball
Camp
The Team NJ-ABC instructional
camp was held this weekend at The Basketball Shooting Academy in Edison.
The camp, under the direction of Karl Towns and instructed by Lamont
Halsey of Team NJ-ABC and Pete Marston of St. Patrick’s High School,
was a huge success.
The camp featured some of the
top young kids in this area such as Matt Sandoval of Bernards, Michael
Simpson out of Franklin, Elijah and Ephraim Johnson of South Plainfield,
Deante Cole, Trey Lowe and Isaiah Powell out of Ewing Township, Wade
Baldwin and Kevin Johnson out of Montgomery Township, Tafari Kerr and
Anthony Jones of Perth Amboy, Jerrel Burke out of Yardley Pennsylvania,
the sensational twins Rachel and Suvae McDaniel, Nick Hionis
of Middlesex, plus Piscataway’s own Kenny Virden, Vic Singh, Keyana Hammonds,
and Karl Towns.
This event showcased the dribbling
and passing skills of so many unnoticed and skilled athletes such as
Moses Railey and AJ Thomas out of Dayton, N.J., Daniel Jacobiini and George
Kloak out of Ridgewood, Brian Hardin of Summit, and Matt Gibbons of Short
Hills.
The coaches mostly focused
on shooting, dribbling and proper shooting technique. The athletes went
for four hours Saturday and Sunday and showed great improvement on their
fundamentals by camps end. This camp was not about having scrimmages
or games it was about showing them what it takes to play at the high
school and middle school level, especially defensively.
The drills were relentless and the kids all felt it at the end of each day. The second most important thing that the coaches talked about was keeping your grades up. I feel that the kids all left with a new meaning of hard work and the importance of education. This camp featured all areas and was totally what these young kids needed to learn and needed to hear.
