Eddie Griffin Challenge School Lists
by Alex Schwartz
Today was the Eddie Griffin Challenge, pitching some of the best players in the Philadelphia-area in the classes of 2011, 2010, and 2009 against ballers from New Jersey. The seventh annual event took place at The Barn on the Rutgers University campus, and featured over 50 of the best players from the two areas. I will have more coverage of the event coming soon, but first I'll post the school lists I collected:
Tyrone Johnson '11, Plainfield (NJ): Georgetown, Texas, Kansas, Villanova, Rutgers, Tennessee, and UCLA
Offers: "I don't want to tell yet [who has offered]."
Favorites: "I like Georgetown."
Note- Johnson is also a star quarterback on the football field, and said that West Virginia, Texas, Michigan, UCLA, Rutgers, and Michigan State are involved in his recruitment on the gridiron. Although he does "not yet" have any offers for football, he lists West Virginia as his top choice when it comes to his fall sport. "I don't know yet," said Johnson when I asked him what sport he will play in college, adding, "[I will know] next year."
Travis Robinson '10, Penn Charter (PA): Villanova, Niagara, Siena, Temple, La Salle, Drexel, and Xavier
Offers: None
Favorites: "I like Villanova."
Note- Robinson said that "Temple [has] been showing . . . a lot of interest," and that Xavier has been too.
Derrick Williams '10, St. Anthony's (NJ): Xavier, Temple, UMass, Charlotte, Richmond, St. Joseph's, Dayton, La Salle, Duquesne, Rhode Island, St. Louis, Fordham, George Washington, St. Bonaventure, Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina, and Seton Hall
Offers: Virginia, Seton Hall, La Salle, and Fordham
Favorites: Virginia and Fordham
Note- Williams said that "all the A10 schools" are recruiting him.
Tyrone
Garland '10, John Bartram (PA): La Salle, Temple, St. Joseph's,
Nebraska, Butler, Virginia Tech, Marquette, Providence, Pitt, St.
Bonaventure, and Rutgers
Offers: La Salle and Nebraska
Favorites: "La Salle and Nebraska because they offered. . . . I [also] like Virginia Tech and Butler."
