Update on . . . John Wall- Lists Six; Adds Miami; NCSU Visit

by Alex Schwartz

In early September when I got in touch with John Wall '09 of Word of God (NC), he informed me that he was considering four schools: Memphis, Oregon, Kansas, and Baylor. Well, that is no longer the case, as his list now has a half dozen schools on it. I caught up with Wall yesterday and he let me know that his current list is "Memphis, Kansas, Baylor, Oregon, North Carolina State, and Miami." The Wolfpack and Hurricanes are the two schools that he did not mention last time we spoke. North Carolina State has been mentioned with Wall before, and he even took an official visit to the school recently. As for Miami, Frank Haith and Co. are new to the list. As a matter of fact, when I spoke with John in mid-August he listed seven main schools he was considering and three other possibilities, and Miami was not one of them. Wall said the 'Canes began recruiting him "a long time ago," but he put the up-and-coming ACC power on his list "last week" because "the head coach, [Frank Haith] called." He informed me that the program has indeed already offered him a scholarship. I asked John why he decided to put UM on his list after receiving the call, to which he replied, "I like the school."

As previously mentioned, North Carolina State is the other school that was not on the list Wall gave me a month and a half ago. This past weekend, the 2008 Boost Mobile Elite 24 co-MVP took an official visit to the school, as did fellow top five prospect Derrick Favors '09 of South Atlanta (GA). Wall said that "it was good" being on the visit with Favors, arguably the best big man—and player—in the class of 2009. The speedy, ultra-athletic point guard said that he "kinda" has a relationship with Favors, though he said "no, it [does not] matter" when I asked him if there was anyone in particular that he wanted to go to college with.

I asked Wall if he had a top three at this point, but he is unsure right now. Stay tuned for more news on Wall, as some of the nation's top programs fight to land the clear-cut best floor general.
