News & Notes

- A source close to the situation told me on Monday that David Bruce '09 of Linden (NJ) had committed to St. Joseph's, jusy as Northstar Basketball projected in early October. The Garden State star confirmed that decision to me later that night. This is a huge pickup for the Hawks, as Bruce is about 6'10 and has a nice interior game. He dominated St. Raymond's (NY) at the 2008 Prime Time Shootout, dropping 29 points in an overtime victory. Bruce is the third 2009 baller from New Jersey to commit to Phil Martelli and Co., following in the footsteps of Carl Baptiste of North Hunterdon (NJ) and Justin Crosgile of DePaul Catholic (NJ).
- I first saw on ZagsBlog.net that Jordan Williams '09 of Torrington (CT) committed to Maryland. The big man will team with James Padgett '09 of Lincoln (NY) to give the Terrapins two imposing low post players.
- I recently heard from Derrick Gordon '11, a 6'2 guard from St. Patrick's (NJ), and he gave me an update on his recruitment. "Western Kentucky . . . and Florida State are my favorites right now," said Gordon. He added that although neither school has offered him a scholarship yet, "they are about to." Gordon went on to say, "[The] WKU head coach, [Ken McDonald] really wants me, and I am very interested in [the school]." Derrick will have a better idea of the Hilltoppers in June, as he says that he will be at "their elite camp/unofficial [visit]" then. "I think it's going to be between . . . those schools [Western Kentucky and Florida State]," said Gordon on his likely college destination.
- Two of Philadelphia's best players have changed schools. I recently heard that La Salle-commit Nurideen Lindsey '09 is now at John Bartram (PA). The future Explorer was at Overbrook (PA) last year, the alma mater of NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain. As well, Jesse Morgan '09, who attended Prep Charter (PA) last year and was at APEX Academies (NJ) for a little while, is now at Olney (PA).
