News & Notes

by Alex Schwartz

- Khalid Green is leaving his post as Head Coach at Bishop Loughlin (NY) according to a source close to the situation. Green will now be doing scouting for the New Jersey Nets. The New York City powerhouse currently features players such as Antoine Brown '09 and Jayvaughn Pinkston '10, but will have to go on with a new coach, though one has yet to be named.

- Dondre Whitmore '10 of Trenton Catholic (NJ) received a scholarship offer from Mount St. Mary's today. The 5'9 point guard now holds five offers: Robert Morris, Fordham, Iona, Rider, and Mount St. Mary's.

- A new dual-sport star is emerging in New Jersey. The Pennington School (NJ), which already has two-sport stud Dontae Johnson '10, is seeing Harold Spears '10 dominate on the football field. Spears, a transfer from Faith Christian Academy (PA), has not played school football since eighth grade, when he was tight end. This year, Spears has five touchdowns for the 4-1 Red Raiders, including an interception return for a TD. The 6'4 wide receiver/defensive end had three scores in the squad's 33-14 thrashing of Springfield (PA) this past weekend. Spears is already drawing interest from UConn and Boston College for football, while Ivy League, Patriot League, MAAC, and CAA schools are already involved in his recruitment on the hardwood.
