Jordan Williams- Where Will He Go?
by Alex Schwartz
Jordan Williams '09 of Torrington (CT) is one of the best uncommitted seniors in the nation. Although some reports have indicated that he is down to just a pair of school, St. John's and Maryland, I spoke with the gifted low post player yesterday and he informed me that is not the case. Rather, Williams is still weighing offers from Marquette, Providence, UMass, Xavier, St. John's, and Maryland. Although St. John's and UMD are coming at him the hardest, Jordan claims that he does not have any favorites. The big man, who said that the coaches he has the best relationships with are "probably [St. John's Head Coach] Norm Roberts and [Maryland Head] Coach [Gary] Williams," does not have a dream school, but did mention that "it was North Carolina" when he was younger. Jordan, who was injured in mid-September at the Fall Jam Fest, informed me that although his ankle is "sore, . . . it's getting better." Around the same time as Williams' ankle injury, James Padgett '09 of Lincoln (NY) verbally committed to Maryland, and thus I inquired of Jordan if Padgett's decision would impact him, to which he said, "No." The New England Playaz (NE) AAU star is looking for a "school where [he] feels the most comfortable, . . . [has a] family atmosphere, . . . [and has a] style of play that fits [him] best." So, what style of play is Jordan seeking? "High-low, . . . getting touches inside." The Constitution State stud describes himself as a "physical player [who] . . . bangs and gets banged." He went on to say that playing in the "low post" is the strongest point of his game, while "outside shooting, . . . shooting threes, . . . and probably dribbling," are his weakest points. Jordan did stress that he has "a lot to work on" though. Williams said he was "not sure" exactly when he would commit, mentioning, "hopefully within the next couple weeks." That seems to be the case, as ZagsBlog.net reported today that Williams will be deciding this week. Jordan, who has already taken official visits to UMD and St. John's informed me that he is "not sure" if he will be taking other visits, as he "[does not] have any scheduled, . . . though that's not to say [he is] not going to take anymore." We'll see how Williams' recruitment plays out, as a decision should be coming soon.
