Nate Lubick and Jordan Williams Injured

by Alex Schwartz

You may have already seen this in my Fall Jam Fest Day One Overview, but I'm re-writing it for those of you who missed it in the long article. Nate Lubick '10 and Jordan Williams '09, both of the New England Playaz and from St. Mark's (MA) and Torrington (CT) respectively, were both injured this weekend at the Fall Jam Fest. Lubick one of the best student-athletes in the class of 2010, who is being courted by numerous high-major programs, rolled his ankle on Saturday afternoon: "I tried to save a ball and fell back and rolled it." Although Nate said he was trying to give it a go on Sunday, when I saw him in the morning that he day, he said, "it's worse," and thus he did not play in the team's loss to Team New Jersey ABC in the U-17 Gold Bracket quarterfinals.
As for Jordan Williams, who is one of the best uncommitted senior big men in the nation , his injury was worse. Austin Carroll '09 of Worcester Academy (MA), Williams' teammate with the NE Playaz told me on Saturday night that the big-bodied low post stud "sprained his ankle pretty badly." When he was leaving on Saturday, he could not put any pressure on his foot. Williams was not in the gym for his team's final game on Saturday and was nowhere to be seen on Sunday, so his injury is likely much more severe, though it's unknown right now just how bad it is. I'll try to keep you posted on how the gifted New England big men are doing.
