Anali Okoloji Considering Many, but Favoring Few; Charis Prep Cleared?

by Alex Schwartz

Anali Okoloji '09 attended Benjamin Banneker (NY) last year, but will be at Charis Prep (NC) for his final year before college. Okoloji had an outstanding summer at Hoop Group Elite Camps, and drew a lot of college interest. While at these Hoop Group Elite Camps, Anali was a Top 20 All-Star at Session IV, and according to NJHoops.com, was the MOP of the Top 20 All-Star game at Session V.  I caught up with him today and he filled me in on his recruitment. Anali listed nine schools showing interest in him: Providence, UConn, La Salle, St. Bonaventure, Albany, Penn State, UPenn, and Syracuse. The former Empire State baller claims offers from La Salle, St. Bonaventure, and Albany. Regarding Jim Boeheim and the Orange, Okoloji said, "Syracuse [is] also on my list now. [I] went to their elite camp at the end of the month [of August]." Currently, Okoloji's favorites are Providence, St. Bonaventure, and Syracuse. There is a possibility that he list could grow, as he said, "Now I am at prep [school] trying to get a lot of exposure." If that's the case, who knows how his favorites could change. As of now, Anali does not have any visits of any type setup, but did mention, "I need to [schedule] some." Only time will tell where Okoloji ends up.

As for Anali's situation right now, it was recently reported by Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com that his current school, Charis Prep, was not cleared by the NCAA. Okoloji had this to say about Charis Prep and where he stands: "From my understanding, that's a rumor, but if [it is] true, I [have already] got all my core classes [completed. The] only thing I need to do is the SATs." To clarify with him, I inquired as to whether he has actually heard it is cleared: "Well, I am I hearing it's cleared and those were rumors that were put in the paper." This could have a major impact on a number of players including Anali Okoloji, who is a gifted player to keep an eye on.
