Update on . . . David Bruce- Favoring Maryland
by Alex Schwartz
I just got off the phone with Linden (NJ) big man David Bruce '09, one of the premier post players in the New Jersey/New York/Pennsylvania area in the class of 2009. I discussed his college list with him, and he informed me that he has a top two of Maryland and St. Joseph's, with the Terrapins out in front. Despite getting involved in Bruce's recruitment "around [the] end of the summer," Gary Williams and Co. are currently the favorite to land the Garden State star. Although David's decision will "most likely" come down to the Terrapins and the Hawks, he did mention that he has three other schools he is considering: Providence, St. John's, and Penn State. Of the five, all but PSU have offered him a scholarship. Right now St. John's is number three on Bruce's list, with PSU at number four, and Providence at number five. He did tell me that if the Nittany Lions were to offer him, they would leapfrog the Red Storm on his list.
Bruce has yet to schedule any visits, but plans on take an unofficial visit to St. John's and an official visit to Maryland. "I got to visit the schools and see how I like the campus," said David of what factors he will consider in making his decision. The big man is unsure of exactly when he will commit, but said it will be "before the season." I'll be sure keep you posted on David Bruce's recruitment.
