News & Notes

Here's a few tidbits of information for you:

- After Geoff Arnold left Drexel for St. Joseph's, Ashley Howard filled the void, leaving LaSalle. The Philadelphia schools are flopping coaches this summer. After Howard's hiring, Mike Connors was promoted to Associate Head Coach at Drexel. Congratulations Coach Connors, and good luck!

- CJ Aiken '10 has transferred to Plymouth-Whitemarsh. After previously being at LaSalle College HS (PA) and then taking summer classes at Abington HS (PA), Aiken hs landed at P-W, telling me it was because he "just wanted to" transfer to P-W. His transfer officially occurred on August 8th, and he played that weakened with his new school at the Summer Shootout at Allentown HS (NJ).

- The Hoop Group continues to put some its key members into great spots upon leaving the fine organization. Assistant Director of Team Tournaments Matt Quinn has left to take an assistant coaching position under his father Jere Quinn at prep powerhouse St. Thomas More (CT). Lamar Barrett, who was the Director of The Hoop Group Elite Camp, has left for Brown, as the top assistant. Current NCAA coaches who have held Barrett's spot include Robert Morris assistant coach Andy Toole, West Virginia assistant coach Billy Hahn, and Robert Morris head coach Mike Rice, to name a few. Congratulations and good luck to Coach Quinn and Coach Barrett!

- New Jersey has a number of up-and-coming basketball programs. The state is known for St. Patrick's, St. Benedict's, St. Anthony's, and Paterson Catholic. Outside of those four are a number of other private schools to keep an eye on:
-Don Boscop Prep, which features stud Vaughn Gray '11.
-Seton Hall Prep, which has all-star Sterling Gibbs '11 and sharpshooter Jimmy Burke '09.
-St. Peter's Prep, which has dominant big man Keith Lumpkin '11.
-The Pennington School, which has incoming transfer Harold Spears '10, huge youngster Jack Taylor '12,        dual-sport star Donate Johnson '10, and two players who will be four-year starters in Anthony Gaffney '11 and Chandler Fraser-Pauls '11.
-Trenton Catholic, which boasts a star-studded lineup of Markese Tucker '10, Dondre Whitmore '10, Frantz Massenat '10, incoming transfer Frankie Smalls '11, and Khalid Lewis El '11, along with Reggie Coleman '09, Lafayette Smith '09, Daquan Basnight '09, and Chris Lewis '11, giving the team a roster without a weak player.
-DePaul Catholic, which boasts St. Joseph's-commit Justin Crosgile '09.
-Rutgers Prep, which has the little-known, but talented Jordan Robinson '09.
-St. Joseph's Metuchen, which has one of the best shooters in the state in Steve Rennard '10 and a defensive force in the paint in Robbie Ashamole '11.
The Garden State has a lot of talent, and its spread out through a number of schools, not just the "big four."
